Epiphany
by Barry W. Sheehan

Description:

This piece is the muscular back of a male figure. The sculpture was hand hammered out of a flat sheet of 12 gage steel using traditional blacksmithing techniques. The benefit of working sheet metals in this way is not only an infinite amount of shapes and textures available but also the back side becomes a perfect inverse image of the front. When looking at the sculpture from the back it can create an optical illusion as though you were looking at it from the front. The sculpture was given a unique patina and display stand in order to offer a feeling that the piece is ancient and was discovered buried in the ground and this is the only part of the sculpture that survived the ravages of time.
