Upon his arrival in Ibiza, London born Christopher Stone met and collaborated with Barry Flanagan, who mentored Christopher's sculpturing until Flanagan's death in 2009. This exhibition is the most complete assembly of the sculptor's extensive body of work ever to be curated in one place, including a new series of sculptures. This long-awaited event opens with a private view on Thursday 2 May 2019 at his studio in Ibiza. The collection draws on Christopher’s endless fascination with Ibizan hound, the Podenco and more fabled beasts like unicorns, seahorses and mermaids.

As Christopher explains, “Podencos have always been special to me, their grace and elegance, their history and inheritance. I heard a child call them "Bendy pointy dogs", this child's honesty sort of sums them up. This exhibition comes from wanting to invent my own animal, a fantasy.” His play on these creatures creates flights of fancy for his own mythical beast show, real to him, abstract, plausible, fictional, and downright impossible. There’s a delicate blend of playful fantasy with impeccable craft, resulting in a must-see exhibition for collectors and students of sculpture alike. Art Critic and Visual Arts Editor, Tabish Khan adds, “Christopher Stone is a sculptor who creates creatures that are playful or intimidating, real or fantastical, and always imbued with the personality we encounter in the animals we see around us. He observes the dynamism and the fleeting energy of the natural world and gives it immortality by casting it in durable materials like steel and bronze." Major works from this exhibition will then be on tour across Ireland in May and June 2019. A selection of Christopher’s work can also be found at Saatchi ar
